Was not in a good state after being snubbed for 2019 World Cup: Ravi Ashwin
Team India picked two young spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal ahead of Ravi Ashwin in the World Cup 2019.
India’s off-spinner Ravi Ashwin is one player who loves to work on many improvements in his skills. Ashwin is always rated as one of the finest readers of the game. Now, Ashwin has opened up about working on his intra-personal skills to improve himself as a leader. Ravi Ashwin was leading the Punjab Kings squad. He has also opened up about facing tough times during the Covid-19 period.
Ravi Ashwin is one of the biggest match winners for India and is currently ranked number one in the Test bowlers ranking. He became the biggest talking point during five days of the World Test Championship Final against Australia at The Oval when Indian team management decided to drop him from the final.
Ashwin opens up about his tough times.
Talking about his toughest time in the first bio-bubble when his father and wife were admitted to the hospital during the Covid-19 period. Ravi Ashwin, in an exclusive to Indian Express said, “I don’t know, I mean, looking back at it I don’t know if that had an impact, but generally, I was not in a great state physically and mentally. After the 2018 England tour, I didn’t play in the World Cup 2019, I was not even in contention. I was not in a good state. So when I came out of it, I told myself, it’s not worth it”. R Ashwin was not part of India’s squad for the World Cup 2019, instead, India went in with two youngsters Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravindra Jadeja as an all-rounder.
He also served as a captain in the IPL 2018 and 2019 for Punjab Kings and then moved to Delhi Capitals after two seasons. Talking about his leadership skills Ashwin said, “At one point in time, I wanted to be a three-format player. I always believed I had great leadership qualities in me. And always believed that I could be a good leader because it’s not about leading on the field. It’s leading men. However, when that journey came to an end, I figured I needed to work on my intra-personal skills”.
Ashwin termed his journey as a tough one. Ashwin has come back nicely in the last two years and has become part of India’s T20 and Test format. He has also done well in the Indian Premier League.
