Ollie Robinson played a key role in England’s win in first Test against New Zealand.

England and New Zealand are up against each other in a three-match Test series, which is part of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-2027 cycle. The hosts are leading the series by 1-0 after a comprehensive win in first match.

England played a dominating brand of cricket in the first test against New Zealand at Lord’s. Ollie Robinson was the Player of the Match for his heroic performance with both the bat and ball. Robinson took 7 wickets and scored 30 runs combined in both the innings, which led England to win the opening test match by 115 runs.

The focus now shifts towards the second ENG vs NZ game, which is all set to be played from June 17 at the Oval in London. However, just ahead of the game, England have suffered another major setback as fast bowler Ollie Robinson has been ruled out of the game.

The England Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that Robinson will miss the second Test after experiencing soreness in his right knee during training. However, Ollie Robinson will stay with the squad and continue his rehabilitation instead of returning home.

The team management remains hopeful that he will recover in time for the third and final Test at Trent Bridge, which begins on June 25.

With Robinson being unavailable for the second test at The Oval, England have added Sussex fast bowler Henry Crocombe to the squad. This uncapped seamer has impressive numbers in county cricket, and chances are high that he will make his first international appearance.

Ollie Robinson’s injury is the latest concern for England ahead of the second Test. Captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson are already unavailable after being left out due to the nightclub curfew breach investigation after the first Test.

Meanwhile, Jofra Archer has rejoined the squad after completing his IPL commitments and is expected to be a part of the Playing XI for the second test at The Oval. The wicket-keeper batter Jamie Smith could also miss the match as he awaits the birth of his second child.

When will the second Test between England and New Zealand begin?

The second test will begin on June 17, 2026 at The Oval in London.

Who has been added to England’s squad as Ollie Robinson’s replacement?

After Robinson is unavailable for the second test at The Oval, England have added Sussex fast bowler Henry Crocombe to the squad.
