Oman announce squad for T20 World Cup 2026; India-born named captain

Oman are placed in Group B of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Oman have announced their squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 on Tuesday, December 30. They have named a 15-member squad for the tournament. India-born Jatinder Singh will captain the side, while Vinayak Shukla will be his deputy.

Oman have made three changes to their squad from the team that featured in the Asia Cup 2025 earlier in September. Aamir Kaleem, Sufyan Yousuf, Aryan Bisht, Zikria Islam, and Mohammed Imran are five players who have been omitted from the World Cup squad. Moreover, Wasim Ali, Jay Odedra, and Karan Sonavale have been recalled for the T20 World Cup.

Oman are placed in Group B of the tournament alongside Ireland, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and Australia. They will clash with Zimbabwe in the first game on February 9 in Colombo, followed by a match against Sri Lanka on February 12 in Pallekele.

ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will begin on February 7 and conclude with the final on March 8. A total of 20 teams will battle for the title, and are divided into four groups of five teams each. India and Sri Lanka are the hosts of the ICC event.

Speaking after the squad announcement, Oman head coach Duleep Mendis said that they have selected a good combination of players in their squad, many of whom will play in the World Cup for the first time.

“We have a good combination and mix of players. Majority of the players will be getting their maiden World Cup experience but this will be good for them. The players know that this is our fourth World Cup and it is time for Oman to make their presence felt as mere participation is not enough. It is time for us to get some positive results this time,” he said in an official statement.
