Jonny Bairstow recently became the ninth player to play his 100th test in India.

Making his test debut is always at the top of the list for any player who takes up cricket. Playing a test for your country is the best feeling in international cricket because everyone doesn’t get such an opportunity. However, the journey from the first test to the 100th is never easy, which is why there are not many who have done it.

In the 147-year history of test cricket, there have been only 80 players who have represented their country in 100 or more tests. Out of these, 14 are Indians. Here we will talk about overseas players who played their 100th test match in India. Notably, there have been nine such players in history.

Here are nine overseas players who played their 100th test in India

Jonny Bairstow recently featured in the 100th test of his career. He is part of the ongoing fifth test match between India and England at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, becoming the 17th English player to do so.

He looked good and scored a quick 18-ball 29 in the first innings. Nevertheless, he registered his name among those overseas stars who have played their 100th test in India.

8. Ben Stokes (England)

Ben Stokes recently played the 100th test of his career. He achieved this feat during the third test between India and England in Rajkot in February 2024.

Though it didn’t turn out to be a good one for him and England lost the game by a massive margin of 434 runs, Stokes has been superb for England in the longest format, taking them to some unbelievable wins. He scored 41 and 15 in his 100th test.

7. Joe Root (England)

The record for the highest score by a batter in his 100th test is held by Joe Root and it came against India in Chennai in February 2021. It was the first test of the series and Joe Root smashed an incredible 218 in the first innings.

He followed it up with 40 runs in the second innings and led England to a 227-run win. With that, he became only the second player to score a ton against India in India in his 100th test.

It was the second test of the series, which India won by 246 runs, as Virat Kohli smashed 167 and 81 in two innings. Broad took five wickets in the game. Overall, he retired with 604 wickets, including a wicket on the last ball of his career.

It was the second test of the series, which ended in a bizarre draw because the last four days were completely washed out due to rain. However, De Villiers batted once, scored a brilliant 85 runs and was unlucky to miss out on a century.

4. Inzamam-ul-Haq (Pakistan)

Younis Khan smashed 267 and 84 in the game and won the Man of the Match award. Inzamam scored 184 and 31* in the game.

The three-match test series against India in 2002 was the last series for former West Indian all-rounder Carl Hooper. He played 102 tests and scored 5762 runs with 114 wickets.

1. Graham Gooch (England)

English legend Graham Gooch was the first player to play his 100th test in India. Overall, he played 118 tests, scored 8900 runs with 20 hundreds and was the highest scorer for England back then.

His 100th test came at Eden Gardens in January 1993 which India won by eight wickets. He scored 17 and 18 in two innings and his team lost the game.
