Test cricket is the ultimate format of the game and the oldest one. This format takes a lot from the cricketer to perform at the highest level. That is why playing test cricket is always cherished in the career of any cricketer. History has seen many incredible debuts over the years, but not many could continue their impressive runs for a long time.

Even in Indian cricket history, there have been players who scored centuries on their debut match or series, but taking that momentum forward is another big challenge. Here we will talk about the Indian batters who are the fastest to reach 1000 runs in test cricket.

Here are the top 5 Indian batsmen fastest to score 1000 runs in test cricket:

5. Sunil Gavaskar – 21 innings:

Sunil Gavaskar needs no introduction to this game. In fact, he was one of the reasons that many Indian youngsters took up this sport. Against fierce West Indies pacers with no helmet, he made his debut in 1971 and scored 65 and 67 in the game to help his team win. He took his form forward and reached 1000 runs in 21 innings. He went on to become first ever batter to score 10,000 runs in this format of the game. He retired with 10122 runs at an average of 51.12 including 34 hundreds and 45 fifties.

4. Mayank Agarwal – 19 innings:

Making a debut at the iconic MCG against an Australian pace attack and scoring 76 and 42 in the match, that is how Mayank Agarwal marked his entry into test cricket. Mayank Agarwal went on to hit two double hundreds in first ten tests. Agarwal took only 19 innings to complete 1000 runs in test cricket. He was part of India’s test series wins in Australia in 2018 and 2021.

3. Cheteshwar Pujara – 18 innings:

After the retirement of Rahul Dravid, India needed someone temperamentally strong at No. 3 who could soak up the pressure and score big runs, and they found Cheteshwar Pujara. Though he is currently on and off the team, he had an incredible test career for India. Pujara took just 18 innings to complete 1000 runs in test cricket. So far, he has scored 7195 runs in 103 tests with 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries.

2. Yashasvi Jaiswal – 16 innings:

Yashasvi Jaiswal has etched his name in Indian cricket history. The young opener achieved the remarkable feat of scoring 1000 Test runs in just 16 innings. He is the second fastest Indian batter to reach the milestone, surpassing legends like Sunil Gavaskar and Cheteshwar Pujara on the elite list.

This phenomenal accomplishment signifies Jaiswal’s immense talent and potential. He has already established himself as a vital cog in India’s batting line-up and his quick scoring ability brings much-needed dynamism to the top order. The 22-year-old Jaiswal achieved this historic feat during the fifth test match against England at the HPCA stadium in Dharamshala.

1. Vinod Kambli – 14 innings:

Vinod Kambli is considered one of the bad boys of Indian cricket, but one thing is certain – he had an incredible batting skill that gained him popularity at the start of his career. The left-hander was of the same batch as Sachin Tendulkar. He found good success at the start and became the fastest Indian and joint-third-fastest batter to complete 1000 test runs, in just 14 innings. Kambli played 17 tests and scored 1084 runs in 21 innings at 54.20 with four centuries.
