Aamer Jamal was Pakistan’s highest wicket-taker in the test series in Australia.

Ahead of the start of the home test series against Bangladesh, the Pakistan cricket team received a huge blow as pace-bowling all-rounder Aamer Jamal has been ruled out of the upcoming two-test series.

Jamal was Pakistan’s best player on their 2023/24 trip to Australia for the three-match test series. He was his side’s highest wicket-taker with 18 scalps in three tests and provided crucial runs with the bat as well while batting with the tail.

But he’s been dealing with lower back issues since May this year. His last professional outing was on 8th June in the T20 Blast in England.

Aamer Jamal was named in the original squad for PAK vs BAN test series but was subject to fitness clearance

Jamal was already believed to be ruled out of the first test as he is recovering from a back injury. He was named in the initial squad with his participation subject to fitness clearance. However, he’s now been sidelined from the second test as well and hence, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released him from the squad.

He will now train and recover at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore with the aim of making his return in the test series against England in October.

Jamal was the only seam-bowling all-rounder in Pakistan’s squad, which now stands at 14 members after the PCB released Abrar Ahmed and Kamran Ghulam to play for Shaheens against Bangladesh A.

Pakistan are expected to name a four-man pace attack for the first test in Rawalpindi, which starts on August 21, since they have released spinner Abrar.

Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah are two certain picks. Other pacers that Shan Masood has available in the squad are Mir Hamza, Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali.
