Pakistan Cricket Team locked horns with Sri Lanka Cricket Team in their last match of Super 8 round in T20 World Cup 2026. The encounter took place at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele.

Notably, it was a crucial game for Salman Agha & Co. to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament. England were the first team to book a berth in the semi-finals from Group 2, winning all three games in the Super Eight Round.

Pakistan and New Zealand engaged in a close competition for the semi-final race ahead of the SL vs PAK match. After playing all three in Super Eight, the Black Caps have three points in their kitty and take the second spot in the points table.

Since Pakistan had one point from two matches, they could have booked a berth in the semis if they outplayed Sri Lanka. However, they needed to defeat them by at least 65 runs to leapfrog the Kiwis in the points table.

Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field first in the clash. Openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman etched an opening stand of 176 runs to provide a stunning start to batting. While Farhan (100) scored a century, Zaman got out for 84 runs. With their stunning batting show, Pakistan piled up a mammoth total of 212/8 in the first innings.

Notably, Pakistan had to halt Sri Lanka at 147 runs in the 2nd innings or bowl them out before this score to qualify for the semi-final. However, since Sri Lanka crossed that mark, Pakistan were eliminated from the tournament. New Zealand have joined England to become the second team in Group 2 to book a berth in the semis.

Meanwhile, Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by five runs in a nail-biting clash. Despite a marvellous batting show by Dasun Shanaka in the final over of Shaheen Afridi, Sri Lanka remained short of five runs for victory, finishing with 207/6. In the Super 8 round, they lost all three games and ended in the last spot in their pool with 0 points.
