Imad Wasim had come out of international retirement to play in the T20 World Cup 2024.

Pakistan’s group stage exit and their failure to reach the Super 8 round of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 is the “lowest point” of their cricket during the career of Imad Wasim, the all-rounder said ahead of the clash against Ireland in Florida.

Babar Azam’s team have suffered a massive humiliation in the USA as they will be returning home after the group stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. They lost to the USA in the Super Over and then failed to chase 120 against India. From Group A, USA and India have qualified for the Super 8 round.

“It’s hard for the players”: Imad Wasim

The all-rounder feels this is the lowest point of his international career, but he maintained the players will play the dead rubber against Ireland with full intensity.

“Yes, this is the lowest point. You can’t go any lower than this. That’s the fact. I know we’re out of the tournament and it’s hard for the players but at the end this is an international game [vs Ireland], a World Cup game so we won’t take anything lightly,” Imad said in Florida.

“We will go out there and play for the country and play for the pride of our country which we already did but unfortunately the results we can’t control it. Yeah, but we go out there and play like it’s a World Cup game.”

Imad Wasim had come out of retirement to feature in this mega tournament. However, he hasn’t made the kind of impact he was expected to. He missed one game due to injury. In the two games he played, he bowled seven wicketless overs.

With the bat, he missed the opportunity to be a hero against India; instead, he became a villain in the eyes of the Pakistani fans by scoring 15 runs in 23 balls and failed to seal the chase in the last over. The criticism against Wasim has been laid heavily due to his failure to take down Axar Patel, a positive match-up for the left-handed batter.

“The game plan was to take the ball deep. The wicket was not good to play. It was a little difficult. Unfortunately, my plan was going according to plan but not execution,” he explained.
