Pakistan threaten to pull out of ICC T20 World Cup 2026 if India don't travel Pakistan for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 - Reports
India have the hosting rights of ICC T20 World Cup 2026, while Pakistan have hosting rights of ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Pakistan are scheduled to host the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 from February to March. Recently, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) submitted the first draft schedule of the event to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
According to the draft schedule, the upcoming ICC tournament will see eight teams, which include Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa.
The proposed schedule by the PCB stated that the upcoming eight-nation tournament will start on February 19, 2025, with the grand finale taking place on March 9 in Lahore.
The PCB has also proposed that the much-awaited Indo-Pak clash to be played on March 1 in Lahore. After PCB submitted the first draft of the Champions Trophy 2025 schedule to the ICC, a report in India Today revealed that few matches might take place in the UAE or Sri Lanka as India will not travel Pakistan for the mega event.
“It is highly unlikely that the team will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, but a final will be taken by the government. So, in that case, a hybrid model is being worked out. India may play their matches in UAE or Sri Lanka just like the Asia Cup. Although the ICC will also have their stand on it, as of now this is what we are thinking of. Let’s see how things go in the future. As of now, it looks like it will be played in a hybrid model,” the source said.
Men in Green threatens to boycott the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, if the Men in Blue refuse to play the Champions Trophy 2025
Amid all speculations regarding India not travelling to the neighboring country for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a new report in one of the Pakistani media outlets, Geo News, stated that the Men in Green have threatened to boycott the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, if India don’t travel Pakistan for the Champions Trophy next year.
The report also added that the PCB will not change its stance about losing hosting rights of the Champions Trophy 2025 and will stick with their decision to host the full tournament in their country, in the upcoming ICC meeting in Sri Lanka next week.
