Pakistan's updated qualification scenario for T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final

Pakistan have very little chance of qualifying for the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals.
Although Pakistan are at the third spot in the points table of Group 2 of Super 8 stage of T20 World Cup 2026, their chances of finishing in the top two in the points table have become a bit higher after England’s win over New Zealand.

In Group 2, England were the first team to book a berth in the semis by winning two games in a row. Moreover, Sri Lanka have been eliminated following their defeat against England and New Zealand in the Super 8.
England hold the top spot in the Group 2 points table with four points. New Zealand are in second place with three points from three matches. Pakistan are next with one point in two games. Both New Zealand and Pakistan have tough competition for the knockout stage.
How can Pakistan qualify for the semi-finals?

Pakistan will have a slight advantage going into the clash against Sri Lanka as they now know the exact margin of victory they need to achieve a better NRR than the Kiwis.
With England winning against New Zealand, the equation for Pakistan is ver simple now. They need to beat Sri Lanka by 65+ runs or chase the target in 12.4 overs. if that happens, they will join England for semi-finals, while New Zealand will get eliminated. But, if Pakistan fail to win by this margin or lose, they will be out of the tournament.
The PAK vs SL match will be played on February 28 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele.
