Pakistan legend Wasim Akram questions the commitment to fitness of the Pakistani players.

Former Pakistan captain and legendary pacer Wasim Akram has lambasted the current crop of players for being lackadaisical towards fitness.

The Men in Green are going through a tough time as the graph of their performances has declined. They entered the T20 World Cup 2024 as a strong contender but they lost two group matches against the USA and India, which kicked them out of the competition from the first round.

According to Akram, the players have fitness issues, which is why they don’t do well in big tournaments.

Wasim Akram slams Pakistan Cricket Team for poor fitness ahead of upcoming Test series against Bangladesh

Pakistan are all set to host Bangladesh for two test matches. The first game will get underway on August 21 in Rawalpindi, followed by the second match in Lahore, starting August 30. Bangladesh have reached Pakistan, and both teams have begun their practice.

In a discussion on a web show, Wasim Akram highlighted Pakistan’s fitness issues ahead of the Bangladesh series.

As quoted by Cricket Pakistan website, Akram said, “I haven’t talked much about this yet, and I don’t have any inside news, but I knew about it two years ago—cricketers aren’t focusing enough on their fitness.”

Akram drew comparisons with his playing days. He highlighted that there wasn’t much knowledge about improving fitness in his era.

He asserted, “If I was playing cricket today, I’d have a lot of knowledge about fitness, as it’s now common. During the time we played cricket, information about fitness wasn’t common. We simply followed our seniors.”

Pakistan are currently fifth on the World Test Championship 2023-25 table, and the coming Bangladesh series is important in this context. They have nine test matches lined up and seven of them are at home. So, they have a great chance to improve their standings on the WTC table.
