Although Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) could not win the title in the Indian Premier League 2026, they gave a brilliant show under Pat Cummins’ captaincy. They finished third in the points table and made it to the playoffs.
However, they lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator. Pat Cummins gave a decent performance in IPL 2026, clinching 8 wickets in eight games at an economy of 9.59.
Cummins missed the initial matches of the tournament as he recovered from a back injury. Ishan Kishan led the side at the start in his absence. Cummins missed a few games in IPL 2026 but is likely to miss the entire tournament next year.
Pat Cummins might skip IPL 2027 due to national duties
Australia have a busy schedule next year, and Cummins will play a major part in it. The Kangaroos are scheduled to play against South Africa, India, and England.
The Ashes and the Border Gavaskar Trophy are two crucial test campaigns for Australia, where Cummins will lead the side. The ICC ODI World Cup 2027 will take place in South Africa from October to November, with Australia looking to defend their title.
Apart from that, the ICC World Test Championship Final will also take place next year, and if Australia qualify for it, Cummins & Co. will have to do well this time.
Amid Australia’s busy schedule, the IPL will be held in March 2027 before the five-match Ashes series in England. Hence, it might affect Cummins’ preparations for the major ICC tournaments.
Speaking about his participation in IPL 2027, Cummins said that he will make a decision closer to the tournament.
“Something has got to give at some stage next year and it’s not going to be test matches or an ODI World Cup. I will make a call a lot closer and work with the franchise to see what makes sense. Things can change. I’ve had a couple of injuries pop up, so I don’t really want to lock in anything,” he told Sydney Morning Herald.
“The priorities for me are always the test matches and that ODI World Cup. I dare say if I play all of India, I need some sort of break before a pretty gruelling Ashes series,” he added.
