Pakistan hold the hosting rights of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has become the center of a major dispute between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

With Pakistan slated to host the tournament, the BCCI cited security concerns and conveyed that the Indian team will not travel to the country after not being given the permission from the government.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has tried to find a common ground for the two boards by proposing a hybrid hosting model.

PCB open to hybrid model under one condition from the BCCI

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the PCB is ready to accept a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, provided they get a written agreement from the ICC and the BCCI ensuring similar arrangements for Pakistan in future ICC events hosted by India.

The proposal was reportedly discussed during the recent ICC meeting in Dubai last week. The PCB is reportedly seeking an arrangement which will allow Pakistan to play its matches outside India in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, ICC T20 World Cup 2026, Champions Trophy 2029 and the ODI World Cup 2031.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi on the hybrid model

Talking to the media in Dubai, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed Pakistan’s stance on mutual respect and fairness in hosting arrangements.

Naqvi said, “We will do whatever’s best for cricket. If we adopt any other formula [except hosting the tournament in Pakistan], it will be done on the basis of equality. The most important thing for Pakistan is its respect; everything else is secondary.

Naqvi further emphasized that Pakistan will no longer accept one-sided arrangements. He remarked that if India don’t come to Pakistan, then Pakistan will also refrain from going to India for future tournaments.

The PCB chairman concluded, “It cannot be the case that we continue to go to India, but they do not visit Pakistan. Whatever happens must be on the basis of equality.
