Perth Scorchers played their record ninth final in the Big Bash League (BBL) on Sunday, January 25.

Perth Scorchers, the five-time champions in the Big Bash League (BBL), entered yet another final of the tournament. They took on the Sydney Sixers, another successful team of the competition, in the final of 2025-26 edition on January 25 in Perth. Notably, this was their ninth final for the Scorchers in league.

The BBL 2025-26 season, which started on December 14, saw the Scorchers top the points table after the conclusion of the group stage with 14 points from 10 games. The Sydney Sixers finished second, Hobart Hurricanes third and Melbourne Stars fourth.

The Perth Scorchers entered the final after beating the Sixers in the qualifier. Set to chase 148 to win, the Sixers were bowled out for 99. The Sixers, after losing the qualifier against the Scorchers, won the Challengers match against the Hobart Hurricanes to make their way into the final.

Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers have faced each other six times in the final in final. The Scorchers have won four times while the Sixers twice. In this article, we will look at the Perth Scorchers’ record in the BBL finals.

9) BBL 2025-26: Champions

Perth Scorchers won yet another BBL title as they beat Sydney Sixers in final of 2025-26 edition. Opting to field, they bundled out the Sixers for just 132 runs with David Payne and Jhye Richardson taking three wickets each. 

In the chase, Fin Allen (36) and Mitchell Marsh (44) took their team off to a flying start, adding 80 runs for opening stand. Later Josh Inglis (29*) played a vital hand, taking his team to a 6-wicket win.

8) BBL 2022-23: Champions

The most recent BBL title win for the Perth Scorchers was in the 2022-23 season, where they defeated Brisbane Heat by five wickets to win the final. Batting first, the Heat scored 175/7. It was a combined batting effort with none of the batters scoring a half-century. The Scorchers chased the target easily in 19.2 overs with five wickets to spare. Ashton Turner scored 53 in the chase.

7) BBL 2021-22: Champions

Peth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers have faced each other five times in the final. They were the finalists of the first-ever BBL final in the 2011-12 season and will be facing each other for the sixth time in the final when they come face to face on Sunday, January 25.

In the last meeting between the two sides in the 2021-22 final, the Scorchers won the game by 79 runs after putting up 171/6 in their 20 overs. In reply, the Sixers were bowled out for just 92.

6) BBL 2020-21 – Runner-Ups

While the Scorchers won the 2021-22 final, the Sixers won the 2020-21 final by 27 runs. It was a high-scoring final between the two teams, with James Vince powering the Sixers to 188/6 in their 20 overs. The bowling was rather ordinary from the Scorchers, with Jhye Richardson and Andrew Tye taking two wickets each. Perth Scorchers were restricted to 161/9 in their 20 overs, losing the game.

5) BBL 2016-17: Champions

This was a fairly one-sided final where the Perth Scorchers won the match by nine wickets. First, they restricted the Sixers to 141/9 in their 20 overs and chased down the target inside 16 overs with nine wickets to spare.

4) BBL 2014-15: Champions

This was another easy win for the Scorchers as they first restricted the Sydney Sixers to 147/5 in their 20 overs. Skipper Moises Henriques scored a valiant 77 off 57 balls. However, his effort came in a losing cause as Shaun Marsh scored 73 off 59 balls to give the Scorchers an easy four-wicket win.

In this high-scoring final, the Scorchers scored 191/4, batting first. In response, the Hurricanes were restricted to 152/7 in their 20 overs as the Scorchers won the match by 39 runs.

2) BBL 2012-13: Runner-Ups

The Scorchers ended up on the losing side in this final against the Brisbane Heat. They lost the game by 34 runs as they failed to chase down a target of 168 runs. The Scorchers just managed to get 133/9 in their 20 overs.

1) BB: 2011-12: Champions

This was the first-ever BBL final between the two teams. It was the Sixers who won the match by seven wickets and gave a great start to this rivalry. Over the years, the Scorchers have won more games in the final, but it was the Sixers who won the first-ever BBL final between the two sides. The Scorchers scored 156/5 in their 20 overs and the Sixers chased down the target with seven balls to spare and won the match by seven wickets.
