Phil Salt’s 87* (47) helped England ace the chase of 181 runs against West Indies in their first Super 8 game.
England opener Phil Salt was at his destructive best on Wednesday night in St Lucia in the ENG vs WI Super 8 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
England thumped hosts West Indies at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium by eight wickets by gunning down the target of 181 runs in 17.3 overs, courtesy of Salt’s sensational knock of 87* runs off 47 balls, which included seven fours and five sixes.
Three of those sixes and three fours came in a single over off medium pacer Romario Shepherd as Salt took 30 runs in the 16th over of England’s innings that effectively sealed the chase for Jos Buttler’s side.

With 40 runs needed off 30 balls, Salt thrashed Shepherd for 30 runs in a single over to take England within touching distance of the target. This over killed all and any hopes remaining of West Indies to remain alive in the game.
On the first ball, he lofted a boundary over cover. Then Salt bludgeoned a straight six over Shepherd’s head before playing a clever ramp shot over the wicket-keeper’s head for a four. On the fourth delivery, Salt went over long-off for a huge six. The fifth ball resulted in another sixer via a pull shot while the last delivery went for a four over cover once again.
