While the Australians were in heavy demand in the IPL mini-auction held in Dubai on 19th December, A few of the Englishmen struggled to get buyers. Australian skipper Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc got almost the half amount of a franchise’s purse, but T20 specialists like Phil Salt struggled to attract any bidder. Phil Salt was part of the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023, but DC decided to release him ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.
Just a day before the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai, Phil Salt scored a magnificent century against West Indies. Even after going unsold in the auction, Salt smashed his second consecutive ton in the five-match T20I series against West Indies. The English opener went on to score 119 runs in 57 deliveries with 7 fours and 10 magnificent sixes at Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad & Tobago. Salt expressed that it was a little confusing Tuesday for him.

English opener Phil Salt revealed that he was expecting himself as part of the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Salt said, “It was a confusing morning. I expected to be picked up, having gone there last year and done well and after the year that I’ve had, but these things happen.” Cricket experts were also stunned to see Phil Salt not getting any bidder in the auction as he was expected to get a good deal considering his T20 experience and past performance.
The 27-year-old Phil Salt also revealed that he was a bit confused as the auction progressed. He added, “I was a bit confused but it can happen. There are no bad cricketers on the list at the IPL. It’s one of those things.” Salt was happy with a few of his teammates earning big in the auction. Salt said, “There’s a few lads in our dressing room who are going to have a very good Christmas and I’m over the moon for them”
Phil Salt was part of the IPL 2023 and played 9 games for Delhi Capitals. Salt had a fantastic debut season and ended up playing a few crucial knocks for his franchise. Salt played 9 IPL games for Delhi in the IPL 2023 and went on to score 218 runs at an outstanding strike rate of 163.91. Salt went on to score two half-centuries for Delhi. Harry Brook, Chris Woakes, and Gus Atkinson from the English camp got bidders in the auction.
