Big Blow for UP Warriorz! Phoebe Litchfield ruled out of WPL 2026, England star named replacement

Phoebe Litchfield getting ruled out of WPL 2026 comes as massive blow for UP Warriorz, who are eyeing a spot in playoffs.

UP Warriorz have been handed a massive setback in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. Australian batter Phoebe Litchfield has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament. The development comes at a crucial stage of the league.

With the UP Warriorz struggling near the bottom of the points table and desperately fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive, this comes as a huge loss for the Warriorz. While the franchise has not shared detailed medical information, it has been confirmed that Phoebe Litchfield is sidelined with a quad injury.

The WPL confirmed Litchfield’s unavailability through an official league release, stating that the Australian star has been declared unfit for the rest of the season. It is also confirmed that Litchfield will return home for rehabilitation ahead of the upcoming Australia vs India series.

Playing her first season for UP Warriorz, Phoebe Litchfield quickly established herself as the team’s most reliable batter. She finished as the team’s leading run-scorer, amassing 243 runs in six matches at an impressive strike rate of 157. Her tally included two well-crafted half-centuries, along with 30 boundaries and 10 towering sixes, showcasing her ability to combine aggression with composure.

At the time of her injury, Litchfield was placed third on the Orange Cap leaderboard, behind Nat Sciver-Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur. Her consistency at the top and middle order had been one of the few positives in an otherwise underwhelming season for UP Warriorz. Her absence now leaves a significant void in an already fragile batting lineup.

In her place, the franchise have roped in Amy Jones as a replacement. The England star would be keen to fill in the void left by the Lichfield and help her team qualify for playoffs.

“UP Warriorz (UPW) picked Amy Jones as an injury replacement for Phoebe Litchfield for the remainder of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026. Phoebe Litchfield, who scored 243 runs in six matches in the ongoing WPL 2026, has been ruled out of the tournament due to injury,” the WPL said in a release.

Currently placed at the bottom of the points table with just two wins from six matches and a net run rate of -0.769, UP Warriorz face a steep uphill battle. With crucial matches against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals still to come, the team will need big-margin victories and favourable results elsewhere.

While the loss of Phoebe Litchfield weakens their batting core, the arrival of Amy Jones provides experience and hope as the Warriorz look to salvage their WPL 2026 campaign.
