Top five player battles to watch out for in MI vs CSK match No. 29 in IPL 2024
MI vs CSK will be match no. 29 in the ongoing IPL 2024, which will take place on Sunday in Mumbai.
It’s time for El Clasico of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Two teams that have won the joint-most IPL titles (five each) are fighting this season to get their hands on the record sixth title. They will come up against each other on Monday at one of the iconic venues, Wankhede Stadium.
It will be a packed house for Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) clash on Sunday evening. Some of the biggest stars of the Indian cricket team will be up against each other, which will make this game a mouth-watering contest. MI are gaining momentum and have now won two consecutive games, while CSK have won three out of five this season, but are yet to register a win away from home.
MI vs CSK: Head-to-Head
This will be the 37th time these two teams will come up against each other. No other teams have played so many games against each other. Mumbai Indians have 20 wins, Chennai Super Kings have 16, and CSK have won the last three encounters between the two.
MI vs CSK: Top five player battles to watch
1. Rohit Sharma vs Deepak Chahar
Rohit Sharma is the most experienced batter against CSK, and he is also in great form. Earlier, DJ Bravo used to get him out for CSK, but now it is Deepak Chahar, who has good numbers against the former MI captain. Rohit has scored 60 runs off 49 balls from Chahar at a strike rate of 122.4, but the CSK star has dismissed him three times. Rohit registered a duck when these two teams met last time.
2. Suryakumar Yadav vs Shardul Thakur
Suryakumar Yadav smashed a 17-ball fifty in the last game against RCB to announce himself in the IPL 2024, and he will be the most destructive batter for MI. Because him staying at the crease for a few overs can shift the game in MI’s favour. However, MSD and Co. will have plans against him. Shardul Thakur is one CSK bowler who has great numbers against SKY. He has dismissed him twice in 17 balls in the IPL, and Shardul also plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket and should be aware of the playing conditions here.
3. Ishan Kishan vs Mustafizur Rahman
Ishan Kishan is a make-or-break player for MI because he has gotten the license to go after the bowling from the start. If he gets out, MI have a long batting lineup, so he will be very clear in the coming match and will look to put pressure on CSK. But Mustafizur Rahman has been in great form this season, picking up wickets from the new ball. It will be a rather underrated battle, but it can affect the match’s outcome.
4. Jasprit Bumrah vs Shivam Dube
A lot will depend on how Shivam Dube bats at Wankhede, because he is someone who can match any run-rate when he starts hitting the ball, and Wankhede isn’t big ground for him. The left-hander is the leading run-scorer for CSK and is looking destructive. But he will be up against the best of the generation, Jasprit Bumrah. The ace pacer is coming off a five-wicket haul and has troubled Dube in the past. Bumrah has dismissed Dube twice in 17 balls, and the batter has scored only 10 runs off him. It reflects how hard it is for Dube to score off Bumrah.
5. Ruturaj Gaikwad & Rachin Ravindra vs Gerald Coetzee
There will be another great battle between the CSK openers and Gerald Coetzee. You can always see heat when Coetzee is bowling, and he is up for a challenge with the new ball. This will be the first time he will bowl to Ruturaj Gaikwad or Rachin Ravindra. Both batters have done well so far, but Coetzee will not be an easy bowler to face. Hence, this will be a great battle to watch out for in the coming MI vs CSK clash.
