Top five player battles to watch out for in MI vs RR match No. 14 in IPL 2024
Match No. 14 of the IPL 2024 will host a MI vs RR clash on Sunday at Wankhede Stadium.
The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) replaced Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as captain ahead of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. But it looks like the team is still looking to adjust to the change. MI have lost both of their opening games and are sitting at bottom of the points table.
But for them, they will be playing their first home game on Monday. MI will lock horns with Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Wankhede Stadium on April 1. With the trend of the home teams winning most of the matches, it is a great chance for MI to open their account. But it will not be easy to beat the in-form RR.
MI vs RR: Head-to-Head
Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals have crossed the line a total of 28 times in the IPL. MI have a slight edge in this H2H contest as they have won 15 while RR has registered wins in 12 games, and one game was called off.
MI vs RR: Top five player battles to watch
1. Trent Boult vs Rohit Sharma
The biggest battle will be with the new ball, with Trent Boult up against Rohit Sharma. Boult will be ready with his intensity, and the crowd will be backing Rohit Sharma. Hence, the intensity will be high. These two have faced each other in 13 innings. Boult has dismissed Rohit four times, and the former MI captain has scored 52 runs at a 135.46 strike rate.
2. Jos Buttler vs Jasprit Bumrah
Another high-profile battle will be between Jos Buttler and Jasprit Bumrah. These two come up with some unbelievable skills and are match-winners for their respective teams. They have faced each other many times at the IPL and international levels. Bumrah has dismissed Buttler four times in ten innings, while the batter has scored 59 runs at a below-par strike rate of 86.75.
3. Sanju Samson vs Gerald Coetzee
Another interesting battle will be between Gerald Coetzee and RR skipper Sanju Samson. These two have never crossed paths so far, but both are different characters. Coetzee is a bit fiery and loves to be on the face of batters, while Samson is very calm, but his batting numbers are very fiery. So it will be a great battle.
4. Tilak Varma vs Ravi Ashwin
Tilak Varma is in great form and has scored the most runs for MI in the IPL 2024 so far. But he will be up against someone who likes bowling to left-handers, and he is none other than Ravi Ashwin. The veteran spinner will be bowling in the middle overs when Tilak bats. So it will be about who gets the better of the others. Hence, we might see another interesting battle in the middle.
5. Hardik Pandya vs Yuzvendra Chahal
Hardik Pandya will have a big responsibility to take his team to its first win of the IPL 2024 in the MI vs RR clash. The MI captain will look to do well with the bat in hand, but his competition will be against Yuzi Chahal, who has gotten the better of him in the IPL. Chahal has dismissed Hardik three times in the IPL, and the MI captain has only scored 58 runs off 62 balls at a strike rate of 93.53 against Chahal.
