Top players dropped from India's squad for Zimbabwe T20Is

Several big names are absent from India’s squad for T20I series against Zimbabwe.

After the completion of the white-ball series against England, the Indian Cricket Team will tour Zimbabwe for three-matchT20I matches. The ENG vs IND ODI series will conclude on July 19 with the third game, while the opening encounter between Zimbabwe and India will take place on July 23.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the T20I squad for Zimbabwe series. The governing body has announced inexperienced squad has been selected for the campaign with Shreyas Iyer as the captain.

Interestingly, a few key big names are absent from the T20I series against Zimbabwe, and here we take a look at players who have been dropped from Zimbabwe T20Is.

Prominent players absent from India’s squad for Zimbabwe T20Is

1. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson struggled in the T20I series against Ireland last month, getting out for single digits in both games. He also failed to go big in the first match against England, losing his wicket for just one run.

This resulted in Vaibhav Sooryavanshi replacing him as opener in the second T20I in Manchester. And, now he has been dropped from the squad for Zimbabwe T20Is. Notably, he was Player of the Tournament in T20 World Cup 2026.

2. Axar Patel

Former India vice-captain Axar Patel is also not part of the ZIM vs IND T20I series, despite being part of both campaigns against England and Ireland. Although the all-rounder has been impressive with ball, he has struggled to make a mark with the bat. It seems like he has been rested for the campaign.

3. Washington Sundar

Washington Sundar’s absence from the Zimbabwe T20Is is a surprising move as India already will be without all-rounder Axar Patel.

Sundar has been a regular member of the T20I side and also featured in the T20 World Cup. The spin all-rounder might be rested due to Zimbabwe’s pace-friendly conditions.

4. Ravi Bishnoi

After missing selection in the T20 World Cup 2026, Ravi Bishnoi made a comeback to the squad for the Ireland and England tours. The right-arm spinner was too expensive in the 2nd T20I against England, leaking 60 runs off his four-over spell in a losing cause.

Bishnoi is another member present in the England series but absent from the Zimbabwe T20Is. Since the leg spinner is not suffering from any injury concerns, it looks like he has been dropped from the campaign.

5. Harshit Rana

Harshit Rana made a comeback in the UK tour after recovering from his knee injury. The right-arm pacer is a key member of India’s pace unit in the shortest format but has been rested for the T20I series against Zimbabwe.

6. Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep Singh is the leader of India’s pace attack in the shortest format. He has has been in good form, but has been rested from Zimbabwe series, with youngsters getting a spot in the bowling department.

7. Prasidh Krishna

Prasidh Krishna made a comeback to the shortest format in the England and Ireland tours. However, due to his expensive spell in the opening game against Ireland, India preferred debutant Prince Yadav over him in the second game.

Moreover, Shreyas Iyer & Co. benched Krishna in first two games against England. Now, BCCI has overlooked him from the Zimbabwe T20Is.

Which top Indian players have been dropped from the T20I series against Zimbabwe?

Sanju Samson, Harshit Rana, Axar Patel, Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar, Prasidh Krishna, Zimbabwe are seven players dropped from T20I series against Zimbabwe.

How many games will be played between India and Zimbabwe?

Both teams will lock horns in three T20I matches.
