India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, breaking many records.

India thrashed New Zealand in the final of the T20 World Cup 2026, setting many records. India clinched a record third T20 World Cup title, becoming the first side to win the prestigious trophy on home soil. The Men in Blue also became the first side to win back-to-back T20 World Cups.

One of the key factors that has contributed to India’s recent success in T20 cricket is the IPL. The IPL is recognised as the toughest and most competitive franchise-based T20 tournament globally. IPL has provided a perfect platform for many Indian players to grow.

Some players of the Indian team that won the T20 World Cup 2026 also have the special achievement of winning the IPL title. Let’s take a look at the players who won both titles.

1. Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya is one of the talented players India have got from IPL. He has won the IPL trophy 5 times. Pandya lifted the IPL trophy in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 with the Mumbai Indians and in 2022 as the captain of the Gujarat Titans. In 2019, he hammered 402 runs at a strike rate of 191.42, also taking 14 wickets.

The all-rounder led from the front as he lifted the IPL trophy in his first season as the captain of the Gujarat Titans in 2022. Pandya scored 487 runs at a strike rate of 131.26, including four half-centuries. In addition, he took eight wickets, including 3 for 17 in the final.

Pandya has performed well in crucial moments for India, with the best coming against Bangladesh in the 2016 T20 World Cup.

2. Jasprit Bumrah

Undoubtedly, the best gift of the IPL to India is Jasprit Bumrah. Team India’s ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been part of MI’s five IPL title wins: 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. Bumrah made his debut in 2013. In his debut year, Bumrah took three wickets in two matches. In 2015, Bumrah contributed with 3 wickets in 4 matches.

Bumrah has been the leader of India’s bowling attack for a long time now. Whether it be red-ball or white-ball, home or away conditions, Bumrah is not disappointed. He was named the Player of the Tournament in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and took 4 wickets in the final of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

3. Suryakumar Yadav

India’s T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, has lifted the IPL trophy three times. He was a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders outfit in 2014, and then went on to win the title twice with the Mumbai Indians in 2019 and 2020. He was also a part of the MI outfit in 2013 but did not play a single game for the franchise.

Since making his India debut in 2021, Surya has been an integral part of India’s T20I setup and was handed the captaincy role after Rohit Sharma retired from the format in 2024. Yadav has an incredible record as India’s captain in T20Is, winning about 82% of the matches. Under Surya’s captaincy, India won the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Ishan Kishan, who played an integral part in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 success, won the IPL trophy in 2019 and 2020 with the Mumbai Indians.

The year 2020 turned out to be Ishan’s coming-of-age season in the IPL. He smashed 516 runs in 14 games, averaging 57.33 and striking at 145.76, with four half-centuries and the highest score of 99.

Kishan struggled for runs in international cricket and was left out of contention. Ahead of the T20 World Cup 206, Kishan’s hard work paid off as he led his state side, Jharkhand, to the Vijay Hazare Trophy- India’s domestic T20 competition. This helped him secure a place in the Indian team for the T20 World Cup.

5. Varun Chakravarthy

India’s mystery leg-spinner Varun Chakaravarthy was one of the best performers for the Kolkata franchise as they lifted the IPL trophy in the 2024 season. The mystery spinner bamboozled the batters with his spin bowling, taking 21 wickets with an average of 19.14 and an economy rate of 8.04.

A late bloomer in cricket, Varun was an architect to begin with. Later, he turned to cricket, and his mystery caught the eyes of Indian selectors after brilliant performances in India’s premier T20 competition.

6. Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh also played a key role in Kolkata’s victory in IPL 2024. Playing lower down the order, the left-handed batter won games for KKR. He became a fan favourite after hitting 5 sixes in the last over of the innings against the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, taking KKR over the line.

Although Rinku has had limited opportunities in India colours, he was used as a substitute fielder, taking crucial catches and saving runs. With his fielding & finishing ability, he remains an important member of Team India and KKR.

7. Shivam Dube
