Ravichandran Ashwin and Jonny Bairstow are set to play their respective 100th test in Dharamshala.

The history of test cricket dates back to 1877 when England and Australia played the first-ever international game against each other at the MCG in Melbourne. In the last 147 years, many players have dominated on the world stage. But, only 78 players have managed to showcase true longevity in the longest format of the game by going on to play more than 100 test matches.

Moreover, there have been only three occasions in world cricket when one or more cricketers from both sides played their 100th test in the same game. 2006 was the first occasion followed by two more in this format. Let’s have a look at the three instances when one or more players from both sides played their 100th test in the same match.

1. South Africa vs New Zealand, 2006, Centurion

Shaun Pollock, Stephen Fleming, and Jacques Kallis

This was the first occasion in the history of the game when one or more players from both teams played their 100th test match in the same game.

South African pacer Shaun Pollock, all-rounder Jacques Kallis and New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming played their 100th test in the same match. All three of them completed the milestone at Supersport Park in Centurion in a test between South Africa and New Zealand in 2006.

2. Australia vs England 2013, Perth

Alastair Cook and Michael Clarke

This was the second occasion when two players from different sides completed their special milestone in a single test. This was a rare occasion when the captains of both sides played their 100th test together.

Former England skipper Alastair Cook and former Australian captain Michael Clarke played 100th test at the WACA in Perth in 2013 in the Ashes.

3. India vs England 2024, Dharamshala

Ravichandran Ashwin and Jonny Bairstow

The Dharamshala test between India and England is special as Ravichandran Ashwin and Jonny Bairstow will make this the third occasion when two players from different sides play their 100th test in a single match.

English wicket-keeper Jonny Bairstow and ace Indian off-spinner Ravi Ashwin will play their 100th test at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala in 2024.
