Harry Brook will miss the IPL 2024 season due to personal reasons.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the first phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, with a total of 21 matches to be played from March 22 to April 7. Despite the forthcoming general elections in India, the competition will be held entirely in the country.
With the five-match test series between India and England ending last week, the attention of cricket fans across the country will shift to the upcoming 17th edition of the cash-rich league.
Just a few days before the mega tournament, the Delhi Capitals (DC) were dealt a huge blow. Their star batter Harry Brook, who had missed the test series against India due to personal reasons, has also pulled out of the upcoming IPL.
The England player was acquired by the Delhi-based franchise for Rs 4 crore in the IPL 2024 mini-auction, and the franchise will now look for a replacement.
Here are the three players who could replace Harry Brook in Delhi Capitals squad for IPL 2024
3. Sarfaraz Khan (India)
The Delhi Capitals might consider bringing in right-handed batter Sarfaraz Khan as Harry Brook’s replacement. Given his current form with the bat and with him also having a great record on the Indian domestic circuit, Sarfaraz might get a chance to play in the 17th edition of the IPL.
Though his runs came in the test format, Sarfaraz is known for his aggressive style of play and with him previously having been part of the Delhi squad, he might be preferred over other options.
2. Rassie van der Dussen (South Africa)
The South African batter Rassie van der Dussen played three matches in IPL 2022 for the Rajasthan Royals. However, in the ODI World Cup 2023, Van der Dussen amassed 433 runs in 10 games along with two centuries.
The stylish batter is also a good player of spin and can anchor the innings as well. In the Pakistan Super League, the right-handed batter is playing for Lahore Qalandars and has smashed 300 runs in six matches, including one century and two fifties so far.
The Delhi Capitals might consider him based on his current form and the way he played in the ODI World Cup in India.
1. Jake Fraser-Mcgurk (Australia)
The front-runner to replace Harry Brook is Australian explosive batter Jake Fraser-McGurk. The young Aussie had a fantastic Big Bash League 2023/24 season, scoring 257 runs for the Melbourne Renegades in nine matches at a strike rate of 158.64.
Fraser-Mcgurk was also signed by the Dubai Capitals for Season 2 of the International League T20. The Australian batter played three games and smashed 109 runs at a mind-blowing strike rate of over 200.
Fraser-McGurk made headlines last October during a Marsh Cup game when he shattered the record for the fastest List-A century in just 29 deliveries. The record was previously held by legendary batter AB de Villiers, who smashed a ton in 31 balls against the West Indies in 2015.
If the Australian batter is signed by the Delhi franchise for the upcoming showpiece event, it will be interesting to see if he fits in or not. Fraser-McGurk mainly bats in the top order, while DC co-owner Parth Jindal confirmed that Harry Brook would have batted at No. 6.
