3 players who could replace Nathan Ellis at CSK for IPL 2026

CSK retained Nathan Ellis for INR 2 crore ahead of the IPL 2026 auction.

The preparation for the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026) is in full swing. The five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings, are also preparing for the lucrative event and will aim to win their sixth IPL title.

However, ahead of the upcoming season, the Super Kings suffered a major blow as Australian fast bowler Nathan Ellis was ruled out of the squad due to a hamstring injury. That has left a massive hole for Chennai. Ellis, who is considered a death-over specialist, was supposed to have a crucial role, especially after the franchise released Matthesha Pathirana.

But with Ellis getting ruled out, CSK have to find someone who can perform well. They have an option in Jamie Overton, who had a decent display in the T20 World Cup 2026 but was expensive with the ball.

That is why it is important to have a reliable option. The Chennai Super Kings have a chance to pick a replacement. Let’s take a look at three ideal players who could replace Ellis in the upcoming season.

Players who could replace injured Nathan Ellis-

3. Richard Gleeson

The English pacer Richard Gleeson was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad in 2024 and played a couple of games for them. He is an excellent swing bowler who takes wickets with the new ball and has also developed himself for the death overs.

Glesson is also part of the Super Kings unit in the SA20 and performed well in the recent season, picking up nine wickets in six games. CSK could use him with the new ball early on and also in the death overs, making him a potential replacement for Ellis in IPL 2026.

2. Wiaan Mulder

South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder is another good option for the Chennai Super Kings. A seam-bowling all-rounder is always a good pick for IPL teams.

With Ravindra Jadeja not in the team for the upcoming season, CSK need a batsman in the middle or lower middle order who can hit the ball long. That is another advantage of having Mulder in the team.

He has improved his T20I skills and can bowl at any phase of the game. That will give CSK an option to use him at the lateral stages of the game. Mulder is also part of the Super Kings setup in the SA20 and will also be pretty familiar with some of the faces in the coaching staff.

1. Gerald Coetzee

South African speedster Gerald Coetzee is another name who can come in as Ellis’ replacement in the IPL 2026. Coetzee has represented the Mumbai Indians and the Gujarat Titans in the IPL and is part of the Super Kings in the SA20.

He has always been effective with the old ball, and his ability to bowl at high pace makes him a difficult bowler to face. Coetzee is part of the South African team in the ongoing T20I series against New Zealand and has performed well so far.
