RCB-W beat MI-W in the first game of the WPL 2026 to begin their campaign with a win.
It was a perfect start to the fourth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2026). The tournament’s opener featured the biggest WPL rivalry, as current champions Mumbai Indians took on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on Friday.
It started with Smriti Mandhana winning the toss and putting Harmanpreet Kaur and co. to bat first. In the absence of Hayley Matthews, it was Amelia Kerr who opened the proceedings with G. Kamalini. But an excellent opening spell by Lauren Bell put MI-W on the back foot.
She took 1/11 in her four overs, taking the first wicket of the WPL 2026. MI-W were struggling at 67/4 in 11 overs. Then came the rescue act with an 82-run stand for the fifth wicket between Nicola Carey (40 off 29) and Sajeevan Sajana (45 off 25).
The duo took MI-W across the 150-run mark, as they finished with a challenging score of 154/6 in the first innings.
Nadine de Klerk bagged 4/26 in her four overs on her debut for RCB-W. It wasn’t easy, and RCB-W needed a good start. Grace Harris (25 off 12) and Smriti Mandhana (18 off 13) added a 40-run opening stand in 3.5 overs. But as soon as the first wicket fell, RCB-W couldn’t stitch any significant partnership and kept losing wickets.
However, something special was waiting for the WPL fans. It was a dream night for De Klerk. She pulled things in favour of the RCB-W. It was an incredible night for the second-season winner.
De Klerk finished the game with two sixes and two fours in the final four balls of the match and won it for RCB-W single-handedly.

This was the first game of the season, and the two best teams in the league clashed in the opening match. A winning start by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru Women have given them two crucial points. With that, they have jumped to the top of the points table.
On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians Women must be disappointed with their performance. They failed to capitalise on their opportunities and paid the price; currently, they are placed second in the table.
