Match no. 2 of the IPL 2026 saw Mumbai Indians recording their highest successful chase in the IPL.

For the first time since 2012, Mumbai Indians (MI) have finally won the first game of an Indian Premier League (IPL) season. They have broken the jinx, and it came after a record-breaking chase at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Fans were treated to a high-scoring game, and a total of 444 were scored in 39.1 overs.

MI won the toss and put KKR to bat first. Finn Allen (37 off 17) and captain Ajinkya Rahane added a quick 69 runs for the first wicket in just 5.2 overs. Rahane scored a fifty and made 67 off 40 balls.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi also played well and scored 51 off 29 balls. Rinku Singh scored an unbeaten 33 off 21 balls as KKR finished at 220/4. It was a massive total, and MI needed a good start.

That is what Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton provided with a 148-run stand in 11.5 overs. That partnership put KKR on the back foot, and they couldn’t recover after it. Rohit looked good and scored 78 off 38 balls, with six fours and six sixes.

Ryan Rickelton also played well for 81 off 43 balls, with four fours and 8 sixes. MI reached 224/4 in 19.1 overs and recorded their highest chase in the IPL. With that, they also opened their account in the league.
