India moved closer to the semi-finals after defeating Zimbabwe in the Super 8 round.
Two thrilling matches took place in the T20 World Cup 2026 on Thursday (February 26). These two matches have changed the entire qualification scenario for the semi-finals in Group 1.
In the afternoon match, South Africa crushed West Indies by nine wickets like a walk in the park, chasing down a 177-run target inside 17 overs.
In the evening game, India outplayed Zimbabwe by 72 runs. Indian batters made a marvellous comeback after their flop show in the previous game, posting 256/4 in the first innings. Abhishek Sharma (55) and Hardik Pandya (50*) scored half-centuries, while Ishan Kishan (38), Suryakumar Yadav (33), and Tilak Varma (44*) added crucial runs on the board.

While Zimbabwe opener Brian Bennett scored a marvellous knock of an unbeaten 97 runs, they were helpless against a gigantic target.
Reaching 184/6 till the final over, Zimbabwe lost by 72 runs. Arshdeep Singh was the highest wicket-taker for India with three wickets, but Pandya was adjudged Player of the Match for his blistering fifty.

In Group 1, South Africa take the top spot in the points table with four points, followed by West Indies and India with two points each. Zimbabwe are last with 0 points.

England, who have qualified for the semi-finals, grab the top spot in Group 2 with four points. New Zealand occupy the second place with three points, followed by Pakistan with one point.
Sri Lanka languish in last place with 0 points, having been eliminated from the tournament. Either New Zealand or Pakistan will now book a berth in the semi-finals.
