Pakistan defeated Sri Lanka by five runs in the Super 8 match of T20 World Cup 2026.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan clashed in match 50 of T20 World Cup 2026 on Saturday, February 28, at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele. It was hard luck for both teams as Sri Lanka failed to win the match, while Pakistan could not book a berth in the semi-final despite a victory.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field first in the match. As a result, Pakistan needed to defeat them by at least 65 runs to move into the semi-finals. The Salman Agha & Co. made a marvellous start to the batting, with openers Sahibzada Farhan (100) and Fakhar Zaman (84) etching an opening stand of 176 runs.

Pakistan ended with 212/8 on the board and had to restrict Sri Lanka to 147 runs or less in order to reach the semi-final. They started well by halting Sri Lanka at 101/5 at one stage, however, Pavan Rathnayake (58) and Dasun Shanaka (76*) came up with brilliant efforts in the chase.
The match went till the final ball, where Shanaka needed a six for victory. However, he missed the delivery and Sri Lanka ended with 207/6. Pakistan won by a close margin of five runs. Farhan was awarded Player of the Match for his century.
