Ricky Ponting predicts Joe Root will retire as "One of the greats" in Test cricket

Joe Root has smashed 30 test centuries in his career, 13 of them have come in last two years.
England’s senior batter Joe Root had a great first game at The Ashes 2023 against Australia in Birmingham. Joe Root began with a century in the first innings of the test. Root has been in tremendous form and looking in different confidence, his scoops have been portrayed as England’s Bazball redemption in red-ball cricket. Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has expressed that he believes Joe Root will be recognized as one of the greats in the game. Joe Root has always been rated among the fabulous four in the red-ball game, the fab 4 list have players like Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson who are successful for their respective teams in test cricket.
Ponting predicts Root's future
Joe Root began his English summer season well with a century against Australia and a fifty against Ireland at The Lord’s. Talking about Root’s performance Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting said, “He’s in total control of his game now. He’s made over 11,000 test runs. There are not many players in the history of the game that have done that. So, by the time he’s finished, I am sure he’ll be recognised as one of the greats”. With his performance at Edgbaston, Joe Root has come at the top of the ICC Test rankings for the batters. Joe Root has become the number one test batter with his century and 46 run innings in the first Ashes test.
Ricky Ponting has admired Joe Root for his recent good run in test cricket. He added, “He’s never scored a hundred in Australia, but in his last two years I think he’s made eight or nine hundreds, which has elevated him from being a very very good player to one of the great players, I think now people are starting to understand just how good Joe Root is”. Joe Root has had a great last two years and has smashed 13 test centuries in the last 34 test matches. In his overall career, Root has 30 test centuries.
