"It was because of Prabhsimran we could score runs,": Shikhar Dhawan after win over DC

Prabhsimran Singh and Harpreet Brar's star performance kept Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings in the playoffs race.

Nobody would have imagined that Delhi Capitals would fail to chase 168 runs against Punjab Kings. Delhi with captain David Warner’s blistering start were cruising for the win in the power play, but once they lost a wicket in the 7th over they collapsed. Punjab Kings with some great bowling spells from spinners Harpreet Brar (4/30), Rahul Chahar (2/16), and pacer Nathan Ellis (2/26) defeated Capitals by 31 runs. Delhi Capitals batting has been really poor in the IPL 2023. Once again captain Warner lacked support from the other end and ended up on just 136, 31 short of the target. Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh smashed his first-ever IPL century. He also lacked support and fought alone against the Capitals attack. He smashed 103 runs in 65 balls in Punjab’s 167 runs total. 

Captain Warner unhappy with batting collapse

Delhi’s spinners were also brilliant in the game. Axar Patel (1/27), and Praveen Dubey (1/19) had a great game but Prabhsimran’s century helped Punjab reach a decent total. Delhi skipper David Warner also felt that Punjab scored more than expected. Warner said, “It was about restricting them to a decent total. They got a little bit more than what I thought. Prabhsimran batted well. A few dropped chances cost us a few runs”. Delhi had a terrific start in power play but soon they were under pressure after losing 6 wickets in 19 runs. Warner said, “After the way we started and then losing 6 for 30, you are not going to win many games. You have to play with pride, belief in yourself, and play freedom”. 

Shikhar praises Harpreet & Prabhsimran

Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan praised his team’s effort to pull the game back. Shikhar said, “I was thinking where the game was going after the power play, but the way we brought the game back was amazing. The credit goes to spinners and fast bowlers”. Prabhsimran Singh and Harpreet Brar played a huge part in Punjab’s win over Delhi. Captain praised both and said, “It was an amazing knock by Prabhsimran, I rate this quite high, playing that short of a knock with that high strike rate and the shorts he has played and also against the turn, it was amazing. Because of him, we could score that total… The way Harpreet stood up and took wickets, especially left-handers, it was very big”. Harpreet Brar picked up 4 wickets. 

'I was waiting for this inning'- Prabhsimran

Opener Prabhsimran Singh was awarded player of the match for his century against the Capitals. Prabhsimran smashed 10 fours and 6 sixes in his inning. Talking about his performance he said, “I was not thinking a lot, Just when the wicket fell early I wanted to bat deeper”. Prabhsimran Singh accelerated nicely after the first 30 balls. He smashed 75 runs in his last 30 balls to get Punjab at 150 plus. He added, “I have been with the team for a long time and I have learned a lot from my seniors. I was just trying to grab my opportunity… It's a very important knock for me, I was waiting for this”.
