Prasidh Krishna was quite expensive with his spells in the first test at Headingley.

Indian Cricket Team lost the first test against England Cricket Team at Headingley, Leeds by five wickets. The hosts had a huge target of 371 runs to chase in the second innings. However, they managed to chase it with ease as Indian bowlers failed to get wickets and leaked a lot of runs during the match.

Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna was quite expensive with his spells during the Headingley test. The right-arm pacer registered a bowling economy of more than 6.0 in both innings. In the first innings, he conceded 128 runs off his 20 overs. In the second innings, he leaked 92 runs in 15 overs.

Prasidh Krishna captured three wickets in the first innings and two wickets in the second innings. However, the right-arm pacer has little experience in tests. So far, he has played only four tests for India. Shardul Thakur was another costly bowler for India, leaking runs at an economy of more than 5.0 across both innings.

It’s my responsibility to get better: Prasidh Krishna on improving his bowling economy

While speaking to Cricbuzz, Prasidh Krishna accepted that he failed to control his economy rate in the Headingley test. However, he also added that he always looks to bowl a maiden over.

“Every time I come into bowl, I’m definitely looking to bowl a maiden and I’m not really trying to give away boundaries or anything. The outfield [at Headingley] was fast, the lengths, lines that I bowled were not perfect, to be honest at most times, and they took me on. Some of them were edges, some of them I tried bowling bouncers, I ended up giving runs,” he said.

Prasidh Krishna further mentioned that he looks forward to improving his economy in the upcoming games against England and is working on it.

“I definitely would want to bring that [economy] down to whatever best I can do, and yeah, I think I’m learning as well, I can’t say anything, it’s up to me, it’s my responsibility to get better, and that’s what I’m trying, that’s what I’m working on, and I just want to make sure I put in the right kind of work and come back here and put up better numbers,” the 29-year-old added.

Indian bowlers failed to come up with good teamwork in the first test. Jasprit Bumrah clinched a five-wicket haul in the first innings, however, other bowlers failed to support him. After a dismal bowling show in the opening game, India are likely to make some changes in their playing XI for the second test.

Meanwhile, the second test will take place at Edgbaston, Birmingham, where India have never bagged a victory against England in the past. The encounter will commence on July 2. The Ben Stokes & Co. lead the five-match series 1-0.
