The Pretoria Capitals (PC) faced two-time SA20 champions the Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) on Sunday, January 25, at Newlands, Cape Town in the final. This was the second meeting between both sides within a span of a week. Earlier on Thursday, the Capitals defeated the Sunrisers by seven wickets in the first qualifier match.
That win also sent the Capitals into the final first and completed their revival which was commanded by Dewald Brevis, who scored an unbeaten 75 from 38 balls. He was equally supported by Bryce Parsons, who scored 60 runs, to help PC chase 170 runs put on by the SEC.
The result crowned a turnaround after the PC won one of five early matches during league phase start. They surged with four wins from five later games to finish second overall on the points table.
SEC responded to their defeat to PC by crushing Paarl Royals by seven wickets in Qualifier 2 to reach SA20 2025-26 final, their third straight since the tournament’s inception. That chase was commanded by James Coles, who hit an unbeaten 45 from 19 balls, to help SEC chase 115 runs. Earlier, Coles also took one for 15 as the Royals limped to 114 runs for seven wickets down.

The Pretoria Capitals made their second SA20 final appearance, and they don’t have a happy memory playing in finals.
The Capitals topped the table in the inaugural 2023 season but came up short, losing out to Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the final by a hair’s breadth of just 4 wickets at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg back on February 12 of that year.
Roelof van der Merwe earned Player of the Match award for his four-fer as Sunrisers chased down Capitals’ total of 135 runs to claim their first SA20 title in a match postponed by one day due to rain.
In 2025-26 too, they lost to SEC as well, marking their second loss in final. Although, Dewald Brevis hit a hundred, they fell short, losing the game by six wickets.
