Prithvi Shaw revealed a recent conversation he had with Sachin Tendulkar.
Discarded Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has opened up about a recent conversation he had with the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Shaw is going through a tough phase in his cricketing career. Last year, the right-handed batsman went unsold at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction.
He also lost his place in Mumbai side during the last Ranji Trophy season. The selectors overlooked him due to fitness issues. Notably, Shaw made a stunning international debut in 2018 with a century in his first test match against the West Indies.
He was one of the promising and emerging openers for Indian Cricket Team, however, he failed to cement his place in the national team over the years. The 25-year-old last played for India in July 2021 during India’s tour of Sri Lanka. Since then, has has been overlooked by the Indian selectors.
Sachin Tendulkar still believes in me: Prithvi Shaw
During an interview with News24, the opening batsman revealed that batting legend Tendulkar still believes in him. He also revealed he had a conversation with Tendulkar two months ago.
“Sachin [Tendulkar] sir knows about my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were 8-9 years old. We’ve played together, grown up together. Sir was also there sometimes. I had a word with him a little while ago too. Hardly two months ago. He was practicing at the MIG. And I was there too,” he said.
“I spoke to him then too. When things go awry and you drift away, you need that mentor, who can light a spark into you. He still believes in me. He said ‘Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I’ll continue to do so’. Because he has seen me grow up,” he added.
Shaw also opened up about Tendulkar’s advice for him to improve his cricket career in future. “Even today, he tells me ‘Sahi track pe aa ja, jaise pehle tha’ (Come back on the same track as earlier). Everything is possible in the next 13-14 years. So he believes in me and that means a lot,” Shaw concluded.
Meanwhile, Shaw is currently looking forward to changing his team in Indian domestic cricket. He has written a letter to Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to switch his domestic team.
