India ended their ICC trophy drought after 11 years by winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy.

Team India clinched the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy on June 29 in Barbados by defeating Aiden Markram-led South Africa in the final by seven runs.

This victory by the Men In Blue made them only the third team to win two ICC Men’s T20 World Cup trophies, after West Indies and England. Rohit Sharma, the India captain, joined the list of a few West Indies stars to win two T20 World Cup titles.

Rohit also joined the small list of Indian captains, which included only Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni before him, to win a World Cup for India.

Virat Kohli was the Man of the Match in the final for his 76 runs. Rohit and Kohli, though, announced their retirements from T20Is soon after winning the trophy.

Team India have received bumper prize money from both ICC and BCCI for winning the prestigious tournament that was co-hosted by the West Indies and USA.

How much money did India receive from ICC for winning T20 World Cup 2024?

Rohit Sharma’s team received INR 20.42 crores from the ICC for ending the tournament as the winners. This is the biggest cash prize awarded by the governing council to the winners of the T20 World Cup so far.

However, this amount is significantly lesser compared to what the BCCI has awarded Team India with.

How much money did BCCI award Team India for winning the T20 World Cup 2024?

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced INR 125 crore prize money for the T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team.

Shah tweeted, “I am pleased to announce prize money of INR 125 Crores for Team India for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The team has showcased exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and support staff for this outstanding achievement.”
