Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in the 69th match of IPL 2025.
Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI) clashed in the 69th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Monday, May 26. The PBKS vs MI encounter took place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, and the Shreyas Iyer-led side emerged victorious and confirmed their place in Qualifier 1.
After the win over the Mumbai Indians, the Punjab Kings have jumped to the top spot in the points table and now have 19 points in their kitty. They have displaced the Gujarat Titans (GT) from the top spot, which means that they will have two chances to go to the final. Notably, the Shubman Gill-led side has 18 points.
On the other hand, MI ended the league stage in the fourth spot in the points table with 16 points, and as a result of that, they will now play the Eliminator clash.
PBKS to face either RCB or GT in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025
Interestingly, the second team in the Qualifier 1 match is yet to be finalised. RCB currently occupies the third spot in the points table with 17 points. They have one more game left in the tournament, which will be played against Lucknow Super Giants at Ekana Stadium on May 27.
If RCB wins this match, then they will reach the first or second position in the points table with 19 points. Then, they will play the Qualifier 1 match against Punjab Kings. However, if they lose their last game of the league stage, GT will retain their second spot in the points table and will play the first playoff match.
Hence, Punjab Kings will face either Royal Challengers Bengaluru or Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 1 match of IPL 2025. The encounter will take place on May 29 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur in Chandigarh.
Talking about the PBKS vs MI clash, Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl first. MI openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma got out for 27 runs and 24 runs respectively. Tilak Varma (1) and Will Jacks (17) also failed with the bat. Suryakumar Yadav (57) slammed a stunning half-century to power MI to 184/7.
During the chase, PBKS opener Priyansh Arya (62) scored a half-century for the side. Josh Inglis (73) also slammed a quickfire fifty to drive his team to a comfortable victory. MI’s bowling unit failed as the Shreyas Iyer-led side chased the target in 18.3 overs.
