Rain is forecast for the IND vs ENG semi-final in Guyana on June 27.

The Rohit Sharma-led Team India will take on defending champions England in the second semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This high-voltage clash is slated for June 27 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. The first semi-final will be contested on June 26 in Trinidad between South Africa and Afghanistan.

India and England had met in the semi-final at the previous edition of the T20 World Cup two years ago. At the Adelaide Oval, Jos Buttler and Alex Hales hammered India by 10 wickets, as they gunned down the target of 169 runs in 16 overs and went on to win the title by defeating Pakistan in the final.

No team has managed to successfully defend their title. India stand in the way of Buttler’s team as they look to become the first team to win consecutive T20 World Cups.

On the other hand, India are desperate to end their ICC trophy drought, having last won an ICC tournament back in 2013.

The Men In Blue topped the Group 1 standings in the Super 8 round, with three wins in three games. India hammered Afghanistan by 47 runs, Bangladesh by 50 runs and then beat Australia by 24 runs to storm into the semis.

Jos Buttler’s side were dominant against West Indies and the USA, recording wins by eight wickets and 10 wickets respectively, but lost to South Africa, albeit by a small margin of seven runs.

There is a rain threat for the IND vs ENG semi-final. According to the Met Office, the weather forecast for Thursday in Guyana is “thunder showers changing to heavy showers by late morning,” with a 60 per cent chance of rain predicted.

The rules for the reserve day for both semi-finals are different. While there is a reserve day for the South Africa vs Afghanistan semi-final, the India vs England semi-final doesn’t have a reserve day and the match has to be completed on June 27 itself. This is because there is only a day’s gap between the IND vs ENG semi-final and the final on June 29.

However, 250 additional minutes have been allotted for both semis. These extra minutes are distributed over two days for the SA vs AFG semi-final because it’s a night game, whereas for the IND vs ENG semi-final, this additional time is included on the matchday.

What happens if IND vs ENG semi-final is washed out due to rain?

If the semi-finals are washed out due to rain or end in no result for any reason, then the teams that finished at the top of their group in the Super 8 round (India and South Africa) will progress to the final.
