India's tour of West Indies 2023
"There were some important lessons"- India head coach Rahul Dravid after India's T20I series loss vs WI

West Indies became the first team to beat India in a five-match bilateral T20I series.
After winning the test and ODI series, team India were favorites to win the T20I series as well. But the end didn’t go well for them. Though India had a brilliant bounce back after losing the first two games and won the next two to make it 2-2 heading into the fifth and final game on Sunday. But the hosts were too good to handle in the series decider, and they handed the visitors a two-wicket defeat.
With this, West Indies became the first team to beat India in the five-match bilateral series in the shorter format. But with two big events coming up in the next few months, what have the team achieved with this series? Notably, they gave rest to some players, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Mohammed Siraj.
“We tried to do a few things”- Rahul Dravid after losing T20I series vs WI
After the series loss, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid admitted that it didn’t end as well for the visitors as they would have liked. But he also highlighted some areas where the team ticked the boxes. Notably, they mainly focused on trying out some players throughout the tour. Dravid spoke about team’s goal that they were looking for during the tour. He also spoke about the batting depth that the visitors lacked.
Furthermore, he also said that the team that played here (ODI or T20I) will not be the same team that will play in the upcoming Asia Cup or ODI World Cup. He said, “We tried to do a few things (in the ODI series) with the World Cup and the Asia Cup coming up. The goals of that (ODI series) were slightly different from what we wanted to achieve, and I’m glad there were some important lessons from that one-day series and we got the right result.”
The head coach also lauded the efforts of the young team that came back into the series after losing the first two T20Is. Rahul Dravid pointed out that India’s plans were to give opportunities to the new players, which could give them flexibility in the future. However, he admitted that there were a few goals that weren’t ticked, and they were disappointed to lose the series.
