India's tour of West Indies 2023
Rahul Dravid lauds debutants Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, and Tilak Varma despite T20I series loss vs WI

Rahul Dravid lauded the efforts of the three debutants on the West Indies tour.
The T20I series didn’t end as well as the No. 1 ranked T20I team would have liked it to. Team India suffered a 2-3 defeat against West Indies after losing the fifth and final game on Sunday in Florida. Indian coach Rahul Dravid also admitted that India had to address some issues within the team. India suffered their first ever 5-match T20I series loss in history, which is itself a big thing.
They lost to a team that didn’t qualify for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup and were not part of the T20 World Cup in 2022. That tells the story of the performance of the Indian team. Apart from a few players, everyone struggled. It will also not be a wrong statement to say that India under-performed and took the opposition lightly, which didn’t turn in their favor.
“All three debutants stood up”- Rahul Dravid on takeaways from West Indies tour.
India gave chances to some new faces on this tour. In the test series, it was debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal who caught the attention of the world and impressed everyone with his temperament. He started his test career with a 171-run knock and was the highest run-getter in a test series. Then Mukesh Kumar, who made his debut in all three formats, was equally impressive. In T20Is, it was Tilak Varma who was India’s highest scorer.
India head coach Rahul Dravid highlighted the takeaways for India and lauded the efforts of all three debutants. After the final game, he said, “All three guys who made their debuts for us in the series stood up. Whether it was Yashasvi Jaiswal Tilak Varma was very good, coming in in the middle order. He (Mukesh) acquainted himself really well. There are some really good positives from the guys who made their debuts for us.“
Rahul Dravid also admitted that India didn’t end well, but the guys who played here would learn and improve. Team India will fly to Ireland for their next assignment. They will play three T20Is there, starting on August 18, led by Jasprit Bumrah.
