Pulwama Martyr's son Rahul Soreng gets selected in Haryana U16 squad after getting free education from Virender Sehwag's school

Virender Sehwag pledged to support children of CRPF Jawans who were martyred in 2019 Pulwama attack.

Virender Sehwag congratulated Pulwama martyr Shaheed Vijay Soreng’s son Rahul Soreng after the youngster was selected in the Haryana U16 squad for the Vijay Merchant Trophy 2024-25. Rahul Soreng received free education and cricket coaching at Sehwag’s “Sehwag International School.”

The 14th of February 2019 is remembered as a tragic event in Indian history. More than 40 of our gallant soldiers were killed in the terrorist attack on Pulwama. This attack rocked the entire country, but it also presented a significant problem for the martyrs’ families.

In such a tough moment, some people stepped up to assist the martyrs’ families. Virender Sehwag, an Indian cricket legend and former opener, was among the names mentioned.

Following the Pulwama assault, Sehwag took an unusual initiative. He provided free education to the children of martyrs and let them to stay and study at Sehwag School.

Nothing we can do will be enough, but the least I can do is offer to take complete care of the education of the children of our brave CRPF jawans martyred in #Pulwama in my Sehwag International School @SehwagSchool , Jhajjar. Saubhagya hoga,” Sehwag had written on his X account.

And now, the Virender Sehwag’s Sehwag International School has received its first success as Rahul Soreng, son of martyr Vijay Soreng, one of the 40 CRPF jawans who lost their lives in the Pulwama attack, was chosen in the Haryana U16 squad for the upcoming Vijay Merchant Trophy 2024-25.

Virender Sehwag was very proud of Rahul’s achievement and shared the good news on his X account.

He posted: “Remember the name- Rahul Soreng. This is one of the most pleasant feelings of life. After the tragic attack in Pulwama, I had appealed to the children of our martyrs to provide free education and stay in our Sehwag School. I am very happy that Rahul Soreng, son of a martyred soldier from Pulwama, who joined Sehwag International School in 2019 and has been with us for the last 4 years, has been selected in the Haryana Under-16 team for the Vijay Merchant Trophy. Few things give more joy than this. Thank you to our great soldiers.”

Rahul’s tale demonstrates resilience and potential. His hard work, paired with Sehwag’s initiative, has helped him excel in cricket.

As Rahul takes the field in the Vijay Merchant Trophy, his journey serves as a reminder of the enduring legacy of a human being who has overcome numerous challenges. With Sehwag as a leader, Soreng is anticipated to surge in the next years.
