Ireland vs India, 3rd T20I - Rain washes out the final T20I in Malahide
India won the three-match T20I series 2-0 after rain washed out the third T20I at Malahide.
The third and final T20I between India and Ireland is called off due to persistent heavy rain in Malahide. India’s tour of Ireland was widely hit by the inclement weather, as the first T20I also saw a Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method resulted in India’s favour. The umpires were hopeful until the last minute to even get a five-over game, but poor weather and ground conditions could not allow the game to happen on Wednesday. With this unexpected result due to rain, India have won the three-match series 2-0, as they were victorious in the first two T20I games.
Great opportunity for young India
The young team under Jasprit Bumrah’s leadership proved much better for Ireland in both T20I games that happened in the series. Fans were expecting one more game to watch the youngsters from the visiting side to take on Ireland. Rinku Singh, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravi Bishnoi, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Sanju Samson all had brilliant series to give the selectors and fans hope for the upcoming T20 World Cup tournament in West Indies. Ruturaj Gaikwad (58), along with Jasprit Bumrah, made full use of his opportunity to get used to the leadership role.
The umpires didn’t have much to decide on as the rain was persistent in Malahide and couldn’t even allow a toss to happen. The cricket fans were overjoyed with the success of the Lunar programme by ISRO. Team India was also glued to the TV at The Village Ground to witness the historical moment. Rinku Singh made a big impact in his maiden T20I innings in the second game, as he smashed 22 runs in his last 5 balls and ended up scoring 38 runs in 21 innings. Similarly, this series also marked a big positive for the team in the T20I format.
Ireland could not pose any big challenge to team India in the entire series as they were struggling in the top-order batting. In both games, they lost their first two wickets in quick succession. Lorcan Tucker got out on a duck in both innings. Along with the youngsters, Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna also marked a great comeback in the series. Bumrah was at his brutal best in his game, and Prasidh also got the skiddy bounce he gets in white ball format. Jasprit Bumrah also became the Player of the Series for his magnificent performance. He picked up four wickets in two games.
