Ranji Trophy 2023-24: List of teams who qualified for the quarter-finals
Eight teams have qualified for the quarter-finals of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24.
The 89th season of the Ranji Trophy (Ranji Trophy 2023-24) has come to its knockout round. The eight quarter-finalist have been decided who will face off in the knockout matches of this tournament.
The group stage of the 2023-24 Ranji season concluded on Monday with the top two teams from the four Elite groups making it to the quarter-finals, which will begin on Friday, February 23. The four group winners will face the second-placed teams from a different group at home.
Vidarbha, Mumbai, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh finished top in their respective groups. The top two teams from the Plate division, Hyderabad and Meghalaya will qualify for the Elite Group next season, while the two bottom teams across the four groups, Manipur and Goa, will be relegated to the Plate division.
Let’s have a look at the eight quarter-finalist teams in Ranji Trophy 2023-24:
1. Vidarbha
Vidarbha topped the Elite Group A by winning 5 out of 7 matches while they lost just one match and one ended in a draw. It was brilliant performance by the former Ranji champions as they finished with 33 points to their name. They will now face Karnataka from February 23-27, 2024 in the first quarter-final at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur.
Akshay Wadkar has scored most runs for Vidarbha in Ranji Trophy 2023-24 group stage with 431 runs in 7 games with best of 90. He has hit 6 fifties this season, scoring at an average of 43.1. Aditya Sarwate is the highest wicket-taker for Vidarbha with 30 scalps at an average of 15.43 and best bowling of 5/10.
2. Karnataka
Karnataka ended up at the second spot in the Elite Group C and will clash with Vidarbha in the first quarter-final. This encounter will be played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Jamtha, Nagpur from February 23-27, 2024. In the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, Karnataka have played 7 games, winning 3 and losing 1, while 3 games were drawn. They finished the group stage with 27 points.
Devdutt Padikkal has topped the batting charts for Karnataka with 556 runs in 4 games with the best score of 193. He hit 3 centuries at an average of 92.66 and has hit 64 fours and 12 sixes as well. This enabled him to earn a maiden India test team call-up as well for the ongoing India-England test series. Vijaykumar Vyshak has been the most successful bowler for Karnataka with 34 wickets in 7 games at an average of 22.11 and best bowling of 5/67.
3. Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh, led by Shubham Sharma, finished at the top of Elite Group D with 4 wins from 7 matches and 3 draws. They finished with 32 points and will now face Andhra in the fourth quarter-final at the Holkar Stadium, Indore from February 23-27, 2024.
For Madhya Pradesh, Venkatesh Iyer topped the batting charts with 510 runs in 6 games at an average of 63.75 and strike rate of 85.14. His highest score was 135 and he also hit 4 half-centuries. Kumar Karthikeya topped the bowling charts for MP with 34 wickets with best bowling of 6/45. He averaged 19.02 and his strike rate was 46.64.
4. Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh finished second in Elite Group B with 3 wins and 3 draws and one loss in 7 games. They accumulated 26 points. Hence, they will be facing Madhya Pradesh in the fourth quarter-final at the Holkar Stadium, Indore from February 23-27, 2024. AP’s top run-getter is Ricky Bhui, who has also topped the batting charts at the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 as well.
Bhui has scored 861 runs in 7 games with the best score of 175 and has hit 4 centuries and 3 fifties to his name. He averages 86.1. Kaki Nitish Kumar Reddy is the highest wicket-taker for Andhra Pradesh with 18 scalps in 6 games with best bowling of 5/64.
5. Mumbai
Mumbai have been the dominant team in Elite Group B with 5 wins in 7 games, one win and one loss. They accumulated 37 points to top the group. They will play Baroda on the second quarter-final at the Bandra Kurla Complex ground in Mumbai from February 23-27, 2024.
Bhupen Lalwani is the highest run-getter for Mumbai in this Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season with 493 runs. He averages 49.3 in 7 matches and has the best score of 102. Lalwani has hit 1 century and 5 fifties in 7 matches. Mohit Avasthi is the best bowler from Mumbai side, taking 31 wickets in 6 games with best of 7/52. 6. Baroda
Baroda finished second in Elite Group D with 3 wins and 3 losses in 7 matches with one draw. They will play Mumbai in the second quarter-final at the Bandra Kurla Complex ground in Mumbai from February 23-27, 2024. Vishnu Solanki has led the side well in the group stage and fans can expect the former champions to give it their best against the 41-time champs.
Shashwat Rawat is the top-scorer for Baroda in the group stage of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 with 628 runs in 7 games. He has hit 3 centuries and 2 sixes with the best score of 207 runs. He averages 57.09 and has a strike rate of 53.49. Bhargav Bhatt has the most wickets for Baroda this Ranji Trophy season with 27 scalps in 7 games with the best of 6/46.
7. Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu topped the Elite Group C with 28 points. They played 7 games, won 4 and lost one, while 2 games ended in a draw. Tamil Nadu will clash with Saurashtra in the third quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24, which will be played from February 23 to 27, 2024. This match will be played at the Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science Ground in Coimbatore.
N Jagadeesan has topped the batting charts in group stage for Tamil Nadu. Jagadeesan has made 775 runs in 7 games with the best of 321. He has hit 2 centuries and one fifty and averages 96.87 with a strike rate of 65.18. Coming to the bowling side, R Sai Kishore, the captain leads from the front. The left-arm spinner has 38 wickets in 7 games with the best of 5/80.
8. Saurashtra
Saurashtra will play Tamil Nadu in the third quarter-final of the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 from February 23 to 27, 2024. This match will be played at the Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science Ground in Coimbatore. Saurashtra finished second in Elite Group A with 4 wins from 7 games and 2 losses and one draw, accumulating 29 points.
Cheteshwar Pujara is the highest run-getter for Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 with 781 runs in 7 games with a best of 243*. He hit 3 centuries and 4 fifties at an average of 78.1 and a strike rate of 59. Coming to the bowling stats, Dharmendrasinh Jadeja has taken 39 wickets this season with best of 7/32 at an average of 18.2.
