Rashid Khan becomes highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket, surpasses Dwayne Bravo

Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has climbed to the summit of T20 bowling as he’s toppled West Indian Dwayne Bravo to become the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket. Rashid attained this feat during the Qualifier 1 of the SA20 2025 competition, where he has led MI Cape Town to the final.
Bravo, who retired in 2024, held this record with 631 wickets in 582 T20 matches. Rashid surpassed Bravo’s tally in his 461st T20 encounter.
Rashid Khan made his T20 debut in 2015 at the age of only 16. He went from strength to strength in T20 cricket and became one of the best T20 bowlers of all-time and the most sought-after T20 cricketer in the world as franchises and leagues lined up to attain his services.

Rashid has snared 633 wickets in 461 T20 matches at an average of 18 and an economy of 6.49. He’s taken 16 four-wicket hauls and four five-wicket hauls.

“It’s a great achievement. I never thought about it, if you asked 10 years before this if I would get there. It’s a proud feeling to be from Afghanistan and to be at that level where you top the table. DJ [Bravo] is one of the best T20 bowlers. It’s a great honour and I’m looking forward to continuing,” Rashid said.
Apart from being simply outstanding with the ball in hand, Rashid has improved his hitting ability as well and possess the capability to whack sixes from the onset of his innings. He has a strike rate of 146 in T20s and has provided crucial cameos lower down the order several times. He is also a gun fielder.
