Dinesh Karthik finished his IPL career with 4842 runs in 257 matches.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) career of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik came to an end after RCB suffered a heartbreaking defeat by four wickets against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the Eliminator of IPL 2024 at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 22.

After the match, Karthik took off his gloves and acknowledged the applause from the crowd. He got hugs from his RCB teammates. The 38-year-old batter finished his IPL 2024 campaign with 326 runs in 15 matches and once again played the crucial role of a finisher for Bengaluru.

The 38-year-old Karthik finished his IPL career with 4842 runs in 257 matches, in which he stroked 22 fifties. It is to be noted that Karthik finished his glorious career in the top 10 run-getters in the history of the toughest T20 league in the world.

During his 17-year IPL career, Karthik played for several franchises. He started his career with Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) in 2008 before moving to Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2011. He then moved to Mumbai Indians (MI) and played the 2012 and 2013 IPL seasons for MI before going back to Delhi in 2014.

Bengaluru acquired him in 2015, but Karthik moved to the Gujarat Lions for the 2016 and 2017 editions. He then spent four seasons with two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), whom he captained as well.

The veteran cricketer then returned to the Bengaluru-based franchise in 2022, where he aced the finisher’s role. His incredible run in IPL 2022 with RCB, when he smashed 330 runs, saw him earn a T20I recall to the national side for the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

Truly a wonderful journey: Ravi Ashwin’s heartwarming note for Dinesh Karthik

Senior India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin took to his Instagram and posted a picture with the veteran Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper batter. Ashwin wrote a heartwarming caption where he said it was a wonderful ride together and extended best wishes for starting a new journey in his life.
