Rajasthan Royals’ Ravi Ashwin managed to take only nine wickets in IPL 2024.
Senior off-spinner Ravi Ashwin has given a huge hint that he won’t be retained by Rajasthan Royals (RR) ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction.
According to Ashwin’s latest Instagram post, it can be presumed that the Tamil Nadu off-spinner is expecting to be released by the Sanju Samson-led franchise ahead of the next auction, which will be a mega-auction in which teams will be allowed only a handful of retentions.
RR’s IPL 2024 campaign came to an end in Qualifier 2, where they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Samson’s side had finished third on the points table. They had a fantastic start to the tournament, winning eight out of their first nine matches, but then they lost four games in a row and slipped. Their last match was washed out.
RR bounced back to win the Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), but lost Qualifier 2 against Pat Cummins’ team.

On Saturday, Ashwin took to Instagram to make a heartfelt post for RR. He posted a picture of himself with leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and skipper Sanju Samson.
Ashwin captioned the post, “A season to remember and a happy 3 year period with the @rajasthanroyals”
Check out Ashwin’s post here:
In three seasons with RR, Ashwin took 35 wickets at an average of 38 and an economy of 7.82. In IPL 2024, he managed only nine wickets in 15 outings at an average of 51.
Ashwin was at his best in the Eliminator against RCB as he returned with match-winning figures of 2/19. However, he got a spanking in Qualifier 2, when he returned with figures of 0/43 on a Chepauk pitch that assisted spinners.
