Ravi Ashwin names his best XI of ICC Champions Trophy 2025, leaves out Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 came to a conclusion on Sunday, March 9, with India defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the final in Dubai.
Following the tournament, former Indian spinner Ravi Ashwin has named his best XI of the tournament and has made a bold call by excluding Indian captain Rohit Sharma and India’s joint-highest wicket-taker Mohammed Shami from the lineup.
Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match in the final for his crucial 76-run knock in a tricky run chase of 252 runs, while Mohammed Shami was India’s joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with nine wickets.
Ashwin has included New Zealander Rachin Ravindra and Afghanistani Ibrahim Zadran as his two openers. The duo performed consistently, scoring 263 and 217 runs respectively in the tournament. In the fast bowling department, Shami’s exclusion means New Zealand’s Matt Henry has found a place in Ashwin’s best XI.

In the middle order, Ashwin picked the Indian duo of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer, who consistently stepped up for India in crucial situations.
The off-spinner surprisingly chose Josh Inglis over KL Rahul for the wicket-keeper’s spot. Inglis helped Australia defeat England in their opening group-stage match, but Rahul was more consistent in the tournament, scoring 140 runs.
David Miller’s century in the semi-final against New Zealand earned him the number 6 spot in Ashwin’s XI, while Azmatullah Omarzai and Michael Bracewell were included as all-rounders.
Omarzai was Afghanistan’s leading wicket-taker with seven wickets. He also made crucial contribution with 126 runs in three games. Bracewell, on the other hand, took eight wickets in the competition and scored an important half-century in the final.
Indian spin duo Kuldeep Yadav and Varun Chakaravarthy made it to Ashwin’s XI as spinners, while the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, Matt Henry, was included as the only frontline fast bowler.
Ashwin’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Team of the Tournament: Rachin Ravindra, Ben Duckett, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Josh Inglis, David Miller, Azmatullah Omarzai, Michael Bracewell, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Matt Henry.
12th man: Mitchell Santner
