Ravichandran Ashwin is captaining Dindigul Dragons in the TNPL 2025.
During the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League 2025 (TNPL 2025), Dindigul Dragons captain Ravichandran Ashwin has been at the centre of controversy.
After being dismissed by IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans captain R. Sai Kishore in the fifth TNPL 2025 match on Sunday, June 8, at the SNR College Cricket Ground in Coimbatore, Ravichandran Ashwin became irate.
After a poor Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Ashwin had been hoping to make a big impression when he returned to local cricket. The seasoned all-rounder only took seven wickets and scored 33 runs in nine games for the CSK in the IPL 2025.
However, Ashwin’s TNPL 2025 started in an unforgettable way, as he was controversially dismissed for 18 runs. When IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans won the toss and chose to bowl, the event happened in the fifth over of the Dindigul Dragons’ innings. Sai Kishore hit the leg stump with a well-pitched, looping ball on the fifth ball of the over.
Ravi Ashwin argues with the female umpire over his LBW decision
The ball hit his pads after Ravichandran Ashwin botched his attempt at a sweep. Ashwin was given out by the on-field umpire, a female official named Venkatesan Krithika, after IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans’ captain, Sai Kishore, requested LBW. The choice completely startled him.
Ashwin marched over to the umpire in fury, thinking the ball had pitched outside the leg stump. The veteran cricket player was unable to contest the call since he had already burned both of his DRS reviews, including one on a wide ball.
He attempted to persuade Krithika, the umpire, that the ball had pitched outside the leg stump, but she refused to change her mind. Ashwin, who was incensed with the ruling, spoke angrily with the umpire on the ground.
Ashwin walked off the field furious, slamming his pads with his bat in rage after failing to reverse the judgment. His passionate response was caught on camera and is currently trending on social media in a variety of formats.
