RR all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin fined for breaching code of conduct in IPL 2023.

During the 17th match of the TATA Indian Premier League 2023 between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 12, RR all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin violated the IPL Code of Conduct and has been penalized 25% of his match fee. Ashwin confessed to breaching the Level 1 Offence under Article 2.7 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. The decision of the Match Referee on Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct is considered to be final and binding.

Ravichandran Ashwin lands in trouble for statement on umpire

Ravichandran Ashwin expressed his confusion regarding the umpires' decision to replace the ball due to dew in the IPL match against Chennai Super Kings. He called for consistency in making such decisions. The substantial dew at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday night compelled the umpires to interfere and change the ball mid-chase, which caught Ashwin off guard despite his excellent performance, taking 2 wickets while conceding only 25 runs.

I'm quite surprised the umpires changed the ball for dew on their own. It's never happened before and I'm quite surprised. Some of the decisions in this year's IPL on the field have left me a little flummoxed to be honest," said the India stalwart at the post-match press conference.

"I mean, (it) left me flummoxed in a good or a bad way. It's because I think what you need is a little bit of balance," said Ashwin, who was adjudged 'Player of the Match'.

"As a bowling team, we are not asking for the ball to be changed. But the ball was changed on the umpires' accord. I did ask the umpire and he said we can change it.

"So I just hope every time there is dew they can change it every single time going forward in this IPL that sort of, you can do whatever you want, but you just need to be in a standard going forward," he added.

After expressing his thoughts on the umpires' decision in the post-match press conference, Ashwin was found to have violated Article 2.7 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which prohibits players from openly criticizing match officials or making inappropriate comments about any incident occurring in a match. The all-rounder accepted the charges for the same.

Rajasthan Royals edge out Chennai Super Kings in a nail-biting IPL clash

In the match between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings, Jos Buttler scored 52 runs in 36 balls while Ashwin, Hetmyer, and Padikkal also contributed to the team's total of 175 runs. Devon Conway's half-century helped CSK during their run-chase, but despite Dhoni and Jadeja's efforts, they lost the match by 3 runs, making Rajasthan Royals the new leaders of the IPL points table.
