Ravichandran Ashwin had earlier said CSK paid extra money to sign Dewald Brevis.
Former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has clarified his statement after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) denied claims that he said the franchise paid extra money to the South African batter Dewald Brevis to sign him during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
Ravichandran Ashwin hogged a lot of headlines for his comments and also many fans lashed out at the CSK for their antics. However, the franchise didn’t shy away from giving it back to the former Indian off-spinner.
The CSK mentioned they brought in Dewald Brevis under the IPL replacement rules, highlighting that they paid INR 2.2 crores to the young Proteas batter. The right-hander replaced Gurjapneet Singh, who was picked at the IPL 2025 auction for the same price.
I focus more on cricket rather than the chatter on social media – Ravichandran Ashwin

Now, Ashwin has thrown the counterpunch as well. He said that he focuses more on cricket rather than chatting on social media. He highlighted how the people twist the statements.
“I just want to say this. I focus more on cricket rather than the chatter on social media. We make videos on YouTube to give our opinions. People who watch our videos don’t do any wrongdoing. However, those who don’t watch can twist the statements according to their whims and fancies.”
Ravichandran Ashwin also lauded CSK’s decision to pick Dewald Brevis, saying that the franchise has struck gold.
“The way Brevis is batting, CSK has struck gold. The decision to bring him on board is very good. The franchise has struck gold during the purple patch of Dewald Brevis. He has been batting well; he hits big sixes. Power-striker, monstrous hitter against spin.”
Dewald Brevis added a fresh light to the CSK’s batting lineup, which was struggling big time to get going. He hammered 225 runs in six innings at a strike rate of more than 180 in the league.
In the recent T20I series against Australia, he slammed a 41-ball century in the second game and then a quick-fire fifty in the third game.
For how much money did CSK rope in Dewald Brevis in IPL 2025?
CSK roped in Dewald Brevis for INR 2.2 crores during IPL 2025.
