Recently, two people were allocated Rajat Patidar’s number and received calls from Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

Former India cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin recalled how a scamster called him to ask for Virat Kohli’s number during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This came amidst the hilarious incident when a person in Chhattisgarh was reallocated a number that belonged to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar.

As per PTI news, Rajat Patidar’s mobile number remained inactive for 90 days and was deactivated in his name and relocated to one Manish in Chhattisgarh. This led to the person receiving calls from RCB players like AB de Villiers and even Virat Kohli, trying to get in touch with Patidar.

When Patidar himself contacted Manish to let him know that it was his number he was using and requested him to return the SIM, as the number was his personal one and had all his contacts regarding RCB, Team India, and MP cricket.

Then Manish and his friend Khemraj, after knowing that the police were also involved in this, made the grand gesture to return the SIM card to Rajat Patidar and revealed that it was their dream come true, talking to Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.

A scammer claiming to be New Zealand wicket-keeper batter Devon Conway messaged Ashwin shortly after the 2025 IPL and demanded Virat Kohli’s number.

Speaking about the story on his YouTube channel, Ashwin shared a similar experience of his own.

A guy messaged me after IPL 2025 ended, saying he was Conway and went, ‘Hi buddy, how are you?’ I responded, and we had a full-fledged conversation as I asked him to stay in touch and promised that I would watch him play in MLC,” Ashwin hilariously narrated.

Then he said, ‘I missed Virat’s number; can you share it?’ I wondered why he was asking for Kohli’s number, but I couldn’t ask him that since I didn’t want Conway to misunderstand,” Ashwin said.

Ashwin then realized that this might be a prank or a scam when the caller asked for the numbers of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma as well.

“What I did was send him another number, saying it was Virat’s. Then he said, ‘I missed a few more numbers.’ When I asked who else, he said Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni. I understood this was a prank. Then I asked him, ‘I gave you a bat this year; how is it?’ He said, ‘The bat is amazing,’ but I never gave Conway a bat. He lied, and I blocked him,” Ashwin added.
