Ravichandran Ashwin called time on his IPL career on August 27, 2025.
An illustrious era in franchise cricket came to an end on August 27, 2025, when Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). This was only a few months after he had announced his Team India retirement during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series in December 2024.
Ashwin played in 106 test matches for India between 2010 and 2024, taking 537 wickets and amassing 3503 runs, including six hundreds. He solidified his reputation as one of India’s best all-around match-winners by taking 156 wickets in 116 ODIs and 72 wickets in 65 T20Is.
Ashwin’s IPL career began in 2009 with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), when he played a key role in their early title victories. He remained with CSK until 2015, when the team was suspended, at which point he joined now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants (RPSG). Later, he captained Punjab Kings (PBKS), played for Delhi Capitals (DC), and then returned to CSK in 2025 for his final season.
In 221 IPL outings, the off-spinner took 187 wickets, with a best of 4/34, and maintained an exceptional economy rate of 7.20. Beyond the numbers, Ashwin’s consistency and tactical savvy made him an invaluable asset to any organisation he represented.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s earnings from IPL from 2009 to 2015

Ashwin’s IPL earnings are impressive. Starting with a modest INR 12 lakh deal in his initial season with CSK, his continuous climb in stature and performance saw his income increase tremendously. Franchises have placed a lot of trust in his ability to execute under pressure throughout the years, and that trust has paid off handsomely.
Ravichandran Ashwin’s IPL career earnings are estimated at INR 97.24 crore. It demonstrates not only his ball talents but also his versatility, longevity, and leadership abilities across multiple teams. With his retirement, the IPL loses one of its most clever and devastating bowlers.
